Back in the olden days of abridged series on YouTube, there was one I particularly enjoyed: Ed, Edd n Eddy: The Alternate Series.
Created by YouTuber RobTaiki, the series was a parody of Cartoon Network's Ed, Edd n Eddy. Like all abridged series, it featured shortened episodes with entirely new audio tracks -- featuring voice work done by RobTaiki himself -- which made the kids of the cul-de-sac say or do crass, absurd, or otherwise humorous things. Simple, but pretty funny as far as the early days of YouTube were concerned.
If I recall correctly, three episodes were released in total. RobTaiki also made a trailer for a dub of the Halloween special, but the full episode never came out. There are a few things that stick out in my memory. Certain running jokes were used, such as the catch phrase, "I'm on a mission, biatch." RobTaiki was also evidently a pro wrestling fan, as the episodes contained a few references to WWE, such as Rolf proclaiming "here comes the pain" while Brock Lesnar's theme music plays, or RobTaiki breaking the fourth wall to express his disdain for Edge.
The episode that sticks out the most in my memory is a parody of the real-life episode where Rolf defends his honor by challenging Eddy to a duel, in which they fight with fish over a pit. (This is the episode the Lesnar reference came from.) Dubbed a "fish game" in The Alternate Series, Rolf, of course, defeats Eddy, to the tune of a Linkin Park song no less. I'm not sure which one. I never really listened to Linkin Park. The only reason I remember it was them was because once the duel was over, Kevin declared "Linkin Park sucks," to which Rolf responded, "You son of a bitch, I challenge you to a fish game." Sounds odd out of context, I know.
Anyway, EEnE: TAS wasn't only like other abridged series in its format. It was also similar in one other major way: it inevitably fell victim to YouTube's copyright guidelines. Much like LittleKuriboh's original Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged channel, RobTaiki's YouTube page was terminated and all its videos deleted. Unlike LittleKuriboh, however, RobTaiki was not able to reupload them, as he forgot to back the episodes up when wiping his hard drive, effectively making them lost forever... or so we thought.
A few years later, a reupload of one of the Alternate Series' episodes was posted to YouTube by another user, I believe under the title "Ed Edd n Eddy Parody." RobTaiki, who now goes by the username Gridley316, even commented on the video, surprised the person was able to find it. However, that video was also eventually taken down. I'm not sure if YouTube struck it or if the person who uploaded it simply deleted it or their entire channel, but it doesn't appear to be available anymore. Still, the fact they had it at all suggests at least one, and possibly more people had the foresight to grab downloads before Gridley's original channel got nuked. Though if extra copies really are out there, the people who have them have not posted them anywhere, as far as i can tell.
Gridley has also gone on record multiple times stating he has no interest in remaking the episodes, given he was just a teenager with too much free time when he first made them, and is now an adult with responsibilities. Though, he has trolled the people holding on to hope on a couple of occasions.
This is certainly a long shot, but if anyone has any idea who may have downloaded these episodes, or just know about them at all, it's the Lost Media Wiki. Anyone else remember catching this short-lived series back during YouTube's salad days?
