Definitely understand where he’s coming from, but it’s still sad that there’s pretty much no chance of him releasing it unless he changes his mind. This seems like the ultimate dead end for this search. We know where it is, but there’s nothing we can do. It’s solely up to him.
I did find his voice of words interesting saying he has the "only VHS copy" and "only digital copy", which might potentially mean that someone else might have a DVD copy of it?
I think he just used those words to describe the way it was saved, I highly doubt a DVD copy would exist because there would be no reason for one to exist. And I think at this point it confirms the clips from the behind the scenes special and video from the University were provided by him, I thought for a long time that there might have been a copy from another source.
It also probably sounds selfish to word it like this but if he was to upload it to archive.org or something it would probably be there forever, in the podcast he kinda makes it sound like digitizing it on his hard drive was a way to preserve it but if something happens to either of those sources it's gone.

Van Partible has specifically expressed that he does not want this to be seen ever again. You can try contacting him for a copy but I highly doubt you'll get an answer
Not gonna lie unless some brave soul records a copy of mess of blue in some type of convention or Van changes his mind I have a feeling were not gonna see this pilot for the most part anytime soon
The weird thing is I have no idea what conventions or classes he's referring to, I looked it up and couldn't find anything about either of them. And if it was shown somewhere like Comic Con you know there'd be bootlegs around which makes me think these must be local places or areas where there aren't any fans that would go out of their way to record it.
