Allegedly, instead of Mobile Fighter G Gundam, another Anime set in the Universal Century was initially planned as the installment of the Gundam franchise to succeed Victory Gundam. However, information is sparse. In fact, the only English language sources are TV Tropes and a video by Kakarot197.

Kakarot197's video mentioning Polka Gundam:
As for Japanese Sources, here are some results I found when googling "ポルカガンダム"

I just noticed something that may not necessarily hint at how far Polka Gundam was in pre-production, let alone production, but worth considering none the less.
Out of all the Gundam TV anime that aired in the mid-90s, G Gundam was the only one not to premier the week after it's preceding series. Victory's finale was on March 25th, 1994, and G Gundam's premier was in April 22nd of the same year. The final episode of G Gundam's was on March 31st, 1995, then Gundam Wing in debuted April 7th that same year. Wing concluded in March 29th, 1996, and Gundam X premiered on April 5th of that same year. In other words, Wing and X debuted the week after the conclusions of their respective predecessors, where as G Gundam premiered four weeks after Victory's finale.
Aside from that, TV Tropes and Kakarot197 are pretty much the only English language sources out their (not counting Japanese language material through Google translate).

After further research, I found what seems to be the most reliable sources out there (if only they could have professional translations). I also Screenshot the embedded tweets in case they get deleted.
Looks like everything is up for speculation, if not investigation. If Polka turns out to be Unproduced, at least there is the unsurfaced pre-production material to search for.
