Oh man senshisun this thread really needs to be updated! A lot of stuff has happened since the last updates were posted here, mostly because the entire search moved to the discord server.
Essentially though, the mystery was completely solved and the search is over.
Alison ended up getting back to me and stated Disney had the license during that time not THQ so she never worked on the game. Eventually we had a few theory changes and leads from old sources which narrowed things down to Chris Tang having developed it under GenAzea. We emailed as many former employees as we could and ended up getting a reply from Chris himself who then came into the discord server for a Q&A.
Big Comfy Couch, Power Rangers Legacy and a newly discovered game called Capcom Generations were all discussed by Chris. User Foxlet summarized everything really well so this is a copy paste from the server-
- Games were worked on by Chris Tang while at GenAzea
- Big Comfy Couch was originally adapted from an in-house custom engine, mockups were completed up to a certain point (violence was not removed!)
- BCC was slated to be a game and not merely a pitch demo
- Power Rangers only got to the pitch demo stage
- Engine was never released as part of a retail game, unique to GenAzea
- Playable builds of the game exist on original hardware
- Developed from around late 2003 to Q3 2004
Big Comfy Couch
--------------------
- 3rd-person Action/Combat Game, in collaboration with Radical Sheep
- Main gameplay was based around a one-vs-many enemies model with melee combat (similar to Earth Defense Force)
- Controls similar to Frogger, movement just with the D-Pad (playable like a dance pad)
- GRAPE JUICE (not blood)
- Final interaction with enemies would include dustbunnies cleaning up, getting sparkly, flying off on a rainbow trail
- Six minigames, including "Dance Academy" (DDR-like) and "Puddle Hop" (autorunner) planned
- Network Play supported, Molly would've been the second character on Co-Op/Network Play
- Co-Op supported playing with a parent, dance pad support as a selling point
Capcom Generations
------------------------
- Engine was originally built for a different unreleased game, Capcom Generations
- Generations included characters from Street Fighter 3, Mega Man, Bionic Commando, and Devil May Cry
- Game story that Chris Tang ultimately wanted to make
I've also made a couple YouTube videos which detail the search and end results if you'd like my opinions on it as well. Chris also stated he has the prototypes to these games and the original hardware that can run them, however he's unable to access it at the moment. He reassured us when he can he'll make some gameplay videos which I would still consider a win because we got more information than we could have hoped for and know the prototypes are safe.
I think this will go down as one of the most successful searches the Wiki has ever seen all the way through and it really impacted the community in a positive way.
I usually watch your videos when they're first uploaded. I guess I missed that one.
Looking forward to the prototypes. Can we consider this one found?
