Hey, Is the book “How the Rabbit Stole the Moon” published in 1977 possibly it. Look up the art style, It’s very unique and may be it. This is a picture from it. I am sure I can find the cover if you want it. I know I read the book you speak of in school. You’re not crazy.
Grrr i really thought it was gonna be it but im not sure.. the title is deffently similuad to the title of the book, but i cant find much images other than the cover i dont remember the art style being that smooth, plus that rabbit looks nice and happy the character i remember was mean, and mischievious.
Actually that could very well be it, is that the official cover or no? The title seems to fit really well, its a shame i cant find any other images of the book
For the life of me i cant remember in full detail. If and when we find it it'll be like oh yeahh! Lol. But so far, this is our closest bet the most familiar thing about the book you brought up is the colour of the rabbit, the eyes of the rabbit, the name and the orange moon in the background:p it fits sorta but cant really say without more images about the book:p the story from what i read of it isnt exactly how i remember either but i could be just getting plot points/characters mixed up the memory is still so vague.

Searching the title brings up the only cover I have seen. I'll be looking for other versions of the book. I may contact my old elementary school to see if the still have one like it.
update i found this: a video storytelling of a story called "The Moon In The Mill Pound" where a rabbit tricks his friends into thinking the moon is in the water, however, the art is still not how i remember, but this may be the story cept just a different retelling of it? i have found images of a few different versions. also minor note i remembered, the way the story read that i remember, was a big image at the top of the page and words at the bottom

Hm, very possible that it is the book you are thinking of. If it's folklore, there is a chance that other versions of the illustrations exist.
If it is this book, the version of it i keep finding is from 1988, i cant find dates for any older versions, (granted i might be just dumb) but if that's the earliest version than the version were looking for is likely 1990s or the 2000s

There is a chance the book was the one from 1988, just reprinted. The date might still be the same, at least the publishing date should be. Maybe we start there.
